Overview

Your workspace, clearly understood

A Workplace Observation Study delivers:

  • Clear insight into occupancy, utilisation, and activities by space type
  • Visibility into how spaces are used (focused work, collaboration, meetings, or informal use)
  • Evidence of where space is underused, overloaded, or used differently than intended
  • A factual basis for decisions about redesign, consolidation, or change
  • Comparable data across buildings, floors, or locations

All workspace observation studies are combined with an employee experience survey to gather the most holistic data on your workspace.

How a workplace observation study
works

Structured on-site measurement

A trained Measuremen observation team conducts walkarounds on location, registering the use of each workspace and facility in a consistent, low-key way.

Measured over time

The study includes preparation, at least two weeks of observation, and structured reporting via the Measurement Portal. This timeframe reduces short-term fluctuations and reveals consistent patterns.

From data to decisions

We present the findings in a dedicated insights session, walking you through what we see in the data. You’ll get clear, tailored guidance to help address your organisation’s strategic workplace challenges.

Combine observations with other measurements

Observation data can be combined with:

  • Workplace Asset Inventory for asset-level clarity
  • iBASX Smart Office Solutions for continuous measurement
  • Habital® insights, including data on employee experience

Together, these measurements create a complete picture of workplace performance.

FAQs

Questions about how Measuremen works, what data we collect, and how to get started.

Why is a workplace observation study conducted?

To understand how workspaces are actually used and to support decisions with accurate, objective data.

How long do you need to measure for reliable insights?

A minimum of two weeks provides the right balance between usability and reliability and smooths out incidental variation.

What does the observation process look like?

Trained observers conduct walkarounds on site, registering usage of workspaces and facilities using Measuremen’s software.

Are employees monitored?

No. The study focuses on spaces and usage, not individuals or performance.

When are results available?

Insights are typically available in the Measuremen Portal within five working days after the final observation day.
